At BT Scaffolding, safety comes first. We’re fully committed to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of our employees, clients, contractors, and the general public at every stage of our work.
Our aim is simple — to carry out all scaffolding operations safely, efficiently, and in line with Irish and UK legislation. Everyone has the right to a safe working environment, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Our Commitment
We make sure that all scaffolding work is designed, erected, altered, and dismantled safely and in compliance with the latest regulations, including the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations.
We believe accidents can be prevented through proper planning, training, supervision, and communication. Every project we take on is carefully assessed to eliminate or reduce potential risks before work begins.
Responsibilities
Management ensures that safe systems of work are implemented and maintained. We provide the necessary training, equipment, and supervision to protect our employees and others affected by our work.
Site supervisors are responsible for day-to-day safety on site. They monitor activities, enforce safety procedures, and ensure that every scaffold is used correctly and inspected regularly.
Every member of our team is expected to take personal responsibility for following health and safety procedures, reporting hazards, and looking out for one another.
Training and Competence
All BT Scaffolding operatives are trained and qualified for the work they undertake. We ensure our scaffolders hold relevant certifications, such as CISRS or equivalent recognised qualifications.
Ongoing training is provided to maintain and update skills, including working at height, manual handling, and the safe use of tools and materials.
Risk Assessments and Method Statements
Before starting any project, we carry out detailed risk assessments and prepare method statements (RAMS) that outline the safest approach for each task.
These documents identify potential hazards, evaluate the level of risk, and define the control measures needed to prevent accidents or injuries.
Site Safety and Inspections
We conduct regular scaffold inspections to ensure structural stability and compliance with regulations. Scaffolding is inspected before first use, after any significant alteration or event that could affect safety (such as high winds), and at least every seven days while in use.
All inspection records are documented and available for review.
Equipment and Materials
We only use high-quality scaffolding materials that meet industry standards. All equipment is routinely checked, maintained, and replaced when necessary. Damaged or defective components are removed from service immediately.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) — such as helmets, harnesses, gloves, and high-visibility clothing — is provided to all staff and must be worn at all times on site.
Communication and Consultation
We believe good communication is key to maintaining a safe workplace. Health and safety matters are discussed regularly with employees, and everyone is encouraged to raise concerns or suggestions for improvement.
Toolbox talks are carried out on site to reinforce safe working practices and address any changes in site conditions.
Emergency Procedures
BT Scaffolding has clear emergency procedures in place, including rescue plans for working at height. All team members are briefed on what to do in the event of an accident, fire, or other emergency situation.
First aid kits are available on all sites, and at least one trained first aider is present at every project.
Subcontractors and Visitors
Any subcontractors or site visitors under our control are required to comply with our safety rules. Subcontractors are only employed if they can demonstrate suitable competence and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
Continuous Improvement
We review and update our Health & Safety Policy regularly to reflect changes in legislation, technology, and working practices. Lessons learned from past projects are used to improve our systems and prevent recurrence of incidents.
Review and Responsibility
This policy is reviewed annually by BT Scaffolding’s management team and updated where necessary.
All staff are reminded that health and safety is everyone’s responsibility, and maintaining high standards protects not just our workers, but also our clients and the wider community.
